Introducing the Ponto Go! Our First Ever Class II E-Bike

The Ponto is the first class two e-bike Ski Hut has ever carried, before the Ponto we stuck to just pedal-assist e-bikes, or class 1 and 3 e-bikes. When Trek came out with the Ponto, we were unsure if we would be fans. But all it took was a test ride for us to be convinced, one quick spin around the block, and all of us came back with a smile on our faces.

The Ponto is the first class two e-bike Ski Hut has ever carried, before the Ponto we stuck to just pedal assist e-bikes, or class 1 and 3 e-bikes. When Trek came out with the Ponto, we were unsure if we would be fans. But all it took was a test ride for us to be convinced, one quick spin around the block and all of us came back with a smile on our faces. It was the first time some of us had ever ridden a class two bike so having throttle assistance was a new experience. The Ponto has a maximum throttle assistance of 20 mph and a maximum peddle assist of 26mph. Besides using the throttle for simply going faster it also has the practical benefit of making it easier to stop and go at intersections. With a throttle you have the ability to simply go when the light turns green, you don’t have to worry about being in a low enough gear to pedal. 

We have some unique roads here in Duluth, and it’s important to make sure you’re getting an e-bike that is capable of going up and down our steep hills, as well as an e-bike that can handle the potholes that litter this city. Luckly the Ponto checks all the boxes, it is equipped with an 80mm front suspension fork, so it can handle the occasional pothole. It is also equipped with hydraulic disk brakes, so it has plenty of stopping power for trips down to the lake. It’s important to get an e-bike with a motor that is capable of handling steep climbs, the Ponto has no problems getting up hills because it is equipped with 60 nm of torque, plenty of power for getting up Duluth's steep avenues.  

The Ponto also comes equipped with some unique features that I haven't seen on other e-bikes. If you need directions from your phone no worries, the Ponto comes with a Quad lock phone mount on the handlebars. And if you purchase the Quad lock phone case you can wirelessly charge your phone well riding the bike. The other feature the Ponto comes with that is quite useful is turn signals. The Ponto has a rear taillight with built in turn signals. It is controlled by a little remote on the handlebars and allows you to keep both hands on the bars at all times. 

The Ponto might not be your best option if you’re looking for a workout, but if you’re looking for a fast and fun way to get from point A to B without having to sweat too much the Trek Ponto Go is the bike for you!
